A Rocky Relationship with Poetry

Now i’ve never had the best relationship with poetry. I feel like my frustration and general dislike of poetry came from the countless years analysing them at school; it definitely took the fun out of reading poetry.

However, since leaving school i’ve found that I don’t actually hate all poetry. There has always been a poetry book that I enjoy just opening and reading from time to time. ‘100 Great Brits: A Rhyming History from Bede to Beckham‘ by James Muirden. Gifted to me by one of my best friends, its
such a fun poetry book that gives a really fun look at British people throughout history.

There are some poems that I found really entertaining, even if I hadn’t heard of the person it talked about till then. My favourite poem is definitely the one about J.K.Rowling, its just fun to read, offering a quirky look at how she wrote and created the magical world of Harry Potter.

I think with world book day i’ll have to get myself learning more about poetry outside of this book. I know there will be another book out there that will help inspire me and bring a new way for me to indulge. I’ll first have to sift through all these poetry books to see what I find.
